Christopher Chalcraft - Alumni

Chris has taken a new role as a Data Scientist at Chevron! We look forward to continued great things from Chris in this new phase of his career. All the best Chris from everyone at OGS!

Christopher Chalcraft has a B.Sc. from McGill University in Physics & Geophysics. After working for three years for CGGVeritas doing seismic data processing, he has returned to the University of Calgary to complete an M.Sc. in Geophysics (in progress) focussing primarily on reservoir characterization and signal analysis.

He has a varied background starting out in a research lab at McGill University studying gas hydrates gaining experience in forward modelling and AVO. His experience with CGGVeritas was both in the office working in the depth imaging group, as well as doing processing and QC onboard a seismic acquisition vessel based in SE Asia.

Chris is a duplicate bridge player and has represented Canada in international events while playing for the Canadian Junior Bridge Team. When not working in the field or playing bridge, Chris enjoys street photography and collecting vintage cameras.

Chris joined OpenGeoSolutions in 2012.

Chris is the third drummer that has joined OpenGeoSolutions....no more drummers please.

Matteo Niccoli - Visiting Geoscientist

We are very pleased to announce Matteo Niccoli as OpenGeoSolutions very first Visiting Geoscientist.

We first met Matteo through the epic Agile Geoscience Hackathons, and further through his Mycarta blog about Geophysics, Visualization, Image Processing, Programming and Planetary Science (recommended reading!!).

Matteo is a P. Geophysicist (APEGA) with 12 years of industry experience, in Canada and Norway. He has a M.Sc. degree in Geophysics from the University of Calgary and a degree in Earth Sciences from the University of Rome, Italy.

During his tenure Matteo will be helping us advance on our Machine Learning / Deep Neural Networks effort, and visualization.

Update - Matteo has hired on with Birchcliff Energy. We are grateful for his efforts at OpenGeoSolutions during his tenure as Visiting Geoscientist....and wish him the very best as he embarks on new adventures at Birchcliff Energy !

James Alison

James has over 37 years industry experience including exploration and production in Western Canada, West Africa, Egypt and Russia. This experience includes extensive processing, interpretation and support of seismic processing technology. Prior to founding OpenGeoSolutions he held various technology and management roles at Amoco and BP.

James is a P.Geophysicist (APEGGA), a member of the CSEG (Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists), a member of the SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) and a member of the EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineeers).

James founded OpenGeoSolutions in 2001.

Mike Alison

Mike Alison is a P.Geol. with a B.Sc. from University of Calgary in Geology. He has worked several years on Oil Sands, and before that hardrock mineral exploration. He is bringing his geologic expertise and enthusiasm to our deep learning effort.

Mike is a gifted photographer...and just a bit of an outdoor fitness freak (15,000 steps on the fitbit is kind of a slow day).

Mike joined OpenGeoSolutions in 2016.

Steve Harris

Steve has over 30 years industry experience in Western Canada, Gulf of Mexico, Oman and Egypt. Steve created the ARCS (Adjacent Record Cummulative Statics) and developed patented Demultiple methodologies (pre-stack / post-stack in 2D and 3D)
